UK advertising body appoints chair of social media

How important is social media becoming in the UK? reports that the Internet Advertising Bureau has appointed its first chair of social media.

Lloyd Salmons, founder of digital agency Outside Line, will take the lead position, which will see him chair monthly meetings and act as a spokesperson for the council as it seeks to promote social media as a viable ad channel.

And why the sudden interest? The figures speak for themselves.

Recent statistics from eMarketer predict spend on social networks will reach £175m next year, growing to £285m by 2012
